The Sumsel-8 Mine-Mouth Steam Power Plant (PLTU) is a 2x660 MW coal-fired power plant that began commercial operation on October 7, 2023. Located in Tanjung Lalang Village, Tanjung Agung District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, this power plant is a key component of the 35,000 MW Electricity Development Program aimed at meeting national electricity demands.
The project was developed by PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power, a strategic joint venture between PT Bukit Asam Tbk and China Huadian Hongkong Company Ltd.
Equipped with modern and efficient supercritical technology, the Sumsel-8 PLTU also incorporates Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) technology to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions, making it more environmentally friendly compared to conventional power plants. This facility plays a crucial role in strengthening the reliability of Sumatra’s power system by providing stable and sustainable energy supply.

The Tanjung Enim Steam Power Plant (PLTU) is one of Bukit Asam’s strategic assets, located in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, with an installed capacity of 3×10 MW. The plant is operated by PT Bukit Energi Servis Terpadu (PT BEST), a Bukit Asam subsidiary, which has been responsible for its operation and maintenance (O&M) services since February 14, 2016.
As part of the group’s internal synergy, the Tanjung Enim PLTU plays a key role in meeting the energy needs of the mining area while also supporting electricity supply for nearby communities.
The presence of the Tanjung Enim PLTU reflects Bukit Asam’s commitment to strengthening national energy resilience and ensuring reliable, efficient, and sustainable mining operations.

The Banjarsari Steam Power Plant (PLTU) is a 2×135 MW facility operated by PT Bukit Pembangkit Innovative, an affiliate of Bukit Asam. It is located in Sirah Pulau Village and Gunung Kembang Village, East Merapi District, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra.
Construction of the Banjarsari PLTU began in 2012, was completed in mid-2015, and commenced commercial operations in July 2015. The plant utilizes Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) Boiler technology, which is environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient.

The Tarahan Port Steam Power Plant (PLTU) is a strategic project supporting the energy needs of PT Bukit Asam Tbk’s coal port operations. Located in Bandar Lampung, the plant has a capacity of 2×8 MW, designed to provide a stable and reliable power supply for both internal port operations and surrounding areas.
Managed by Bukit Asam’s subsidiary, PT Bukit Energi Sarana Terpadu (PT BEST), since December 1, 2015, this power plant reflects a strong commitment to maintaining operational efficiency while upholding safety standards and environmental protection.

Bukit Asam Partners with BRIN on Artificial Graphite and Anode Sheet Pilot Project. Bukit Asam, in collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), has launched a pilot project to convert coal into Artificial Graphite and Anode Sheets, which serve as raw materials for Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. The inaugural pilot project was launched at the Tanjung Enim Industrial Area on July 15, 2024.
Artificial Graphite is a key material used in the manufacturing of anodes, while Anode Sheets act as electrodes where oxidation reactions occur within Li-ion batteries. Both components are vital in the electric vehicle battery ecosystem and are also utilized across various industries such as energy storage, electronics, and medical devices.

Bukit Asam, in collaboration with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), is developing the utilization of low-calorie coal into potassium humate—an organic substance beneficial for improving soil fertility and quality.
This product will be marketed under the brand name BA Grow and will be available in both solid and liquid forms. The presence of BA Grow supports the national coal downstreaming program while contributing to food security through the domestic supply of fertilizer additives.
This innovation is part of Bukit Asam's transformation to sustainably and environmentally responsibly create added value from coal, in line with the company's vision to become a world-class energy company that cares for the environment.

Bukit Asam Collaborates with PGN to Develop Coal-Based Synthetic Natural Gas
Bukit Asam, together with PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), has established a partnership to develop Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) derived from coal. This strategic initiative aims to support energy downstreaming and strengthen national energy resilience.
The project utilizes Bukit Asam’s low-calorie coal reserves located in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, which is situated near PGN’s gas pipeline network in Pagardewa. This proximity presents opportunities for efficient development of SNG distribution infrastructure across various regions.
