Bukit Asam Supports the National Movement for the Eradication of Illiteracy & Mathematics Illiteracy

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the BUMN Holding Mining Industry MIND ID, participates in the National Movement for the Eradication of Mathematics Illiteracy (Gernas Tastaka) by supporting a training program for Elementary School/ Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (SD/MI) educators in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra.
PTBA in collaboration with Gernas Tastaka and NU Circle will facilitate the training of educators in the company's operational areas, with the main focus on Muara Enim, to improve their quality and competence to the global level.
Education is the key to alleviating poverty and creating a fair and prosperous society. To help the government eradicate illiteracy and mathematics illiteracy in Indonesia, PTBA allocates support for Gernas Tastaka in Muara Enim around Rp1 billion. The training is divided into four batches with 40 participants each, so there will be total of 160 teachers attending the training in Muara Enim.
PTBA President Director Suryo Eko Hadianto explained that PTBA's participation in this movement is a manifestation of its noble purpose implementation as a state-owned mining company and a member of the BUMN Holding Mining MIND ID; the noble purpose of exploring natural resources for civilization, prosperity, and a brighter future.
“In addition, the main key of this movement is our mutual concern. We care and are concerned with the current low rank of literacy and mathematics. If no one cares about this issue, then nothing will change,” said Suryo Eko, at the launch of Gernas Tastaka, Friday, August 13, 2021.
This Training of Trainer (ToT) program will be implemented in the company's operational areas with the main focus on Muara Enim and first trainings are held for 160 SD/MI teachers in Muara Enim. It is hoped that with improved competence they can create reliable generations who are able to compete globally in the future. "It is our collective obligation to improve the quality of our education in order to create superior generations."
This program is expected to eventually create a smart generation with critical thinking, reasoning, context building for self-development, opportunities seeking, and capability to develop themselves and their environment.
Muara Enim Regent DR. H. Nasrun Umar really appreciates PTBA's concern for improving the competence of human resources in Muara Enim. “Education is an investment, not just beneficial for the student, but also for the family, the environment, and even for the homeland and nation,” he said.
Chairman of NU Circle R Gatot Prio Utomo also showed his gratitude to the Muara Enim Regent and PTBA for actively participating in this program. "We must have the same awareness and determination to move forward, having faith that Gernas Tastaka will improve our next generation."
Education is one of the focuses of PTBA's contribution to the environment and society. From 2020 to mid-2021, the company has distributed at least 5000 scholarships in the Bidiksiba program, scholarships to Islamic students, and others. The Company has also built and renovated 109 school buildings and 62 Islamic boarding schools.
PTBA believes that to support education, besides providing adequate facilities and infrastructure for teaching and learning activities, it is also necessary to focus and build the competencies of the human resources, especially the teachers who are the heroes and the keys to the development of this country.
