Utun Bersedekah: “Pela Jage Bande Kite”, A Real Act of Charity for Nature by Bukit Asam
Tanjung Karangan, October 20, 2025 – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) once again demonstrated its commitment to community empowerment and environmental preservation through a program titled “Utun Bersedekah: Pela Jage Bande Kite” (Let’s Take Care of Our Environment). The event took place at Saung Ilmu SIBA Pembibitan, Tanjung Karangan Village, on Saturday (October 11, 2025).
Mustafa Kamal, Head of Sustainable Economic, Social & Environment Department at PTBA, stated that this initiative is part of the company’s effort to integrate local cultural values with the spirit of environmental conservation.
“Through Utun Bersedekah: Pela Jage Bande Kite, PTBA aims to cultivate a culture of mutual cooperation and environmental awareness. Charity is not only about material giving but also about taking action to protect nature and spreading kindness to others,” explained Mustafa Kamal.
He emphasized that this activity represents a concrete form of synergy between PTBA’s sustainability programs and local communities in realizing resilient, independent, and sustainable villages.
“Through this program, PTBA seeks to instill the value of ‘charity for nature and humanity’ as part of implementing a sustainable culture within the assisted communities,” he added.
Mustafa further noted that the program aligns with PTBA’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), by embedding the values of Pela Jage Bande Kite as a tangible expression of sustainable culture in society.
On the same occasion, the Head of Tanjung Karangan Village, Nasni Balqis, expressed her appreciation for PTBA’s consistent support in assisting communities through an approach that integrates cultural values, environmental education, and disaster preparedness.
“The Utun Bersedekah activity means a lot to us. PTBA not only provides economic assistance but also raises new awareness that caring for nature is part of our worship and cultural identity. Through programs like this, people understand better that environmental cleanliness and village resilience must be maintained together,” said Nasni.
The event was attended by 30 participants, consisting of representatives from PTBA’s assisted groups, underprivileged farmers, and environmentally conscious community members from surrounding areas. The program ran warmly and interactively, highlighting collaboration between the company and local communities to protect the environment while enhancing community capacity to adapt to the technological era.
One of the participants, Bu Nusha, an underprivileged farmer from Tanjung Karangan Village, shared that she gained valuable knowledge and motivation from the event.
“All this time, we focused only on planting and harvesting, without understanding the importance of protecting the environment around our farms. After joining the training and listening to explanations from PTBA and SIBA Pembibitan, we learned how to produce our own seeds, manage agricultural waste, and even prepare our village for potential disasters,” said Nusha.
She also expressed that this activity made farmers feel more appreciated and motivated to practice the concept of charity through good deeds toward nature.
“For us, charity doesn’t have to be about money. If we can plant trees, reduce waste, and make our surroundings greener — that’s also charity. Thank you, PTBA, for teaching us that,” she concluded.
