Collaboration to Achieve Food Security Through Corn Planting Program

Tanjung Enim, October 8, 2025 — PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the state-owned mining holding MIND ID (Mining Industry Indonesia), has collaborated with the Muara Enim Police Department to launch a multi-stakeholder corn planting program in the Bukit Asam mine’s green belt area. This initiative represents a strategic effort to protect company assets while optimizing land use to become more productive, environmentally conscious, and economically beneficial for surrounding communities.
The symbolic corn planting ceremony, held on Wednesday (October 8, 2025), serves as PTBA’s tangible contribution to strengthening national food security and aligns with the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s Asta Cita program, particularly in promoting local resource-based economic independence.
Representing the Regent of Muara Enim, Expert Staff for Social Affairs and Human Resources, Mufli, S.STP, MH, expressed his appreciation for the initiative. He stated that this effort embodies real synergy among the local government, police, military, community, and private sector in maintaining food security and driving people’s economic growth. Corn, he noted, is one of Indonesia’s strategic commodities with high economic value and serves as a key ingredient in both food and feed industries.
“Through this simultaneous corn planting movement, we are not only sowing seeds in the soil, but also planting hope and food self-sufficiency for the people of Muara Enim,” he said.
He added that with a spirit of collaboration and mutual cooperation across sectors, Muara Enim Regency could become one of the pillars supporting national food self-sufficiency and a model of synergy between security forces, government, the private sector, and the community.
“This simultaneous planting activity proves that food security is a shared responsibility amid global challenges — from climate change to fluctuating food prices. Collaborations like this are crucial to ensure that people remain prosperous and food needs are met,” he continued.
On the same occasion, Muara Enim Police Chief AKBP Jhoni Eka Putra, S.H., S.I.K, M.M., M.Si., emphasized that the corn planting initiative also supports President Prabowo’s Asta Cita program in the fields of food and energy, aimed at building a strong and self-reliant Indonesia.
“We agree that building a strong and great nation starts from the villages. If every village moves to plant corn in accordance with the President’s directive, I believe Indonesia can achieve sustainable self-sufficiency — not only in 2025, but for years to come,” he remarked.
From the company’s perspective, PTBA’s Tanjung Enim Mining Site General Manager, represented by PR & Adm. Corp Dept Head Sugandi, explained that this program is part of PTBA’s strategy to integrate social and environmental aspects into asset management.
“This initiative reflects PTBA’s commitment to creating sustainable added value from company land — protecting assets while opening space for productive collaboration with local communities and supporting national programs,” he said.
In its initial phase, the planting covers one hectare out of a total three-hectare collaborative area, which will be developed gradually. The land, owned by PTBA, is being utilized productively through a collaborative approach involving the company, security forces, farmer groups, and village officials.
Going forward, PTBA and its partners will continue expanding the corn planting area to the full three hectares. The program is expected to generate direct economic value for the community, enhance the productivity of non-productive land, and strengthen the local food supply chain.
Moreover, this activity is set to become a model of multi-stakeholder partnership that can be replicated in other regions, in line with Bukit Asam’s commitment to continuously delivering sustainable energy for Indonesia.
