Bukit Asam Holds Aquaculture Training for Local Communities

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) in collaboration with Rumah BUMN Bukit Asam, TUK PROFISH, Mbah Kidjo Farm held training and competency certification for the aquaculture-fish hatchery scheme. The training was held in Tanjung Agung Village, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra on 10-11 January 2023 with 20 participants.
PTBA Community Social Development Expert Roy Ubaya, AM Micro & Small Enterprise Funding PTBA Junardi, AM Sustainable Community Development PTBA Dewa Made Dwi Parmana, Rumah Bukit Asam Coordinator Erizal House, Rumah Bukit Asam Facilitator Haris, Head of Tanjung Agung Village Yansri, from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) team (Iwan Setiawan, Eviyanti Nursyirman, and Ajeng Widia Pitaloka), from the Mbah Kidjo Farm team (Sukidjo Purwahadi Indarno and Sony Hartanto) were present in this activity.
Due to the high demand for fish, freshwater aquaculture is being intensively developed. Relying only on marine fish harvests which depend on the season and sea waves will not fulfill consumer demand. With freshwater aquaculture, the breeding is easier and the supply is more certain.
PTBA Community Social Development Expert Roy Ubaya hoped that the training participants would later form a fishery business unit in Tanjung Agung.
"We hope when the fish seeds are harvested, the fishery business can be managed together. The main market would be the Karang Taruna around us. The seeds and food will be given from here. At harvest time, you have to sell it here, no free sale allowed. It has to be according to the certification and the market must be structured," said Roy.
Head of Tanjung Agung Village Yansri expressed his gratitude to all parties who had supported this fish training. "We hope the participants of this training will make it happen that this snakehead fish can be developed in our place," he said.
One participant from Tanjung Enim, Sugeng Priyanto, felt happy and proud because PTBA brought in experts who really had competence for this training. "We have no doubt about the knowledge of the experts. We hope there will be more training for other freshwater fish, tilapia, etc that will help increase our economy, especially for the people of Tanjung Enim," he said.
