Bukit Asam (PTBA) and Sawahlunto City Government Host Low-Cost Food Bazaar for Underprivileged Communities
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Ombilin Mining Unit in collaboration with the Sawahlunto City Government hosted an inexpensive market and agricultural & fishery food commodity bazaar for 46 underprivileged families at Lapangan Segitiga, Sawahlunto on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. This bazaar also collaborated with Toko Tani Indonesia Center (TTIC), Bulog, farmers and UMKM actors in Sawahlunto.
Fauzan Hasan, Acting Mayor of Sawahlunto stated that this activity was part of the City Government's efforts to control inflation and ensure the availability of affordable food for the community.
"President Jokowi often emphasizes the importance of the government's presence in the community to ensure that food is always available, evenly distributed in all regions, and at affordable prices. This inexpensive market and commodity bazaar activity is one of the measures to follow through on the President's directive," said Fauzan Hasan.
The Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Service (DKP3) of Sawahlunto City supported by PTBA Ombilin Mining Unit offers a 50 percent subsidy, or half the price, for the sale of a package containing five food commodities (one broiler chicken, one tray of chicken eggs, one kilogram of shallots, one kilogram of red chilies and two liters of cooking oil). The package typically costs IDR 200 thousand but the families simply need to pay IDR 100,000 with this support.
According to Yulfaizon, General Manager of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Ombilin Mining Unit, the company as State-Owned Enterprise is also working to support the government in managing inflation. This also demonstrates PTBA's commitment to contribute positively to the welfare of the community around the operational area.
"Through our CSR program, we can help underprivileged families to access food at affordable prices. We hope that our support would ease the burden on the community," said Yulfaizon.

Also in this event, PTBA received an award from Sawahlunto City Government presented to Yulfaizon directly by Fauzan Hasan. The award recognizes PTBA's contribution in supporting Sawahlunto City Government performance and services in the fields of food, agriculture and fisheries.
According to Fauzan, PTBA has so far offered real and sustainable support, attention, and contribution in various aspects for city development and community welfare. “The Sawahlunto City Government is expressing its gratitude and appreciation to PT Bukit Asam with this award, which also serves to strengthen our future collaboration," he said.
PTBA's various contributions to improve the welfare of the Sawahlunto community include supporting fostered partners in the agricultural sector, such as coffee plantations, goat and cattle farming, galogalo bee honey cultivation, and others.
"PTBA has been consistent in supporting Sawahlunto City and for that we would like to thank you. In the future there will certainly be many potentials that need empowerment support," he said.
Yulfaizon expressed his gratitude for the award and stated, ”PTBA is committed to continuing to contribute to Sawahlunto City's physical and non-physical development.”
