Bukit Asam (PTBA) Builds Solar Power Plant for Farmers in Lugusari Village

Lampung, November 6, 2024 - PT Bukit Asam Tbk has built a Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 23.4 kilowatt-peak (kWp) to power irrigation pumps for agriculture in Lugusari Village, Pringsewu Regency, Lampung.
The inauguration of the solar-powered irrigation system in Lugusari Village took place on Monday (October 28, 2024). Among those attending the inauguration ceremony were Marindo Kurniawan, Acting Regent of Pringsewu, along with his team; Hengki Burmana, General Manager of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Tarahan Port Unit; members of the District Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam), and other relevant stakeholders.
In his remarks, Marindo Kurniawan, Acting Regent of Pringsewu, stated that the provision of irrigation pumps is a tangible manifestation of the commitment to assist the community in meeting water needs for agriculture, improving welfare, and promoting food self-sufficiency in Lampung Province.
"By utilizing solar energy, we have reduced dependence on fossil fuels while also minimizing environmental impacts. This is in line with efforts to develop a green and sustainable Pringsewu," he said.
Marindo further mentioned that the Pringsewu Public Works and Public Housing Agency (PUPR) had built the Lugusari Weir in 2023 to store water. With the addition of the solar-powered irrigation system, he hopes the two infrastructures can create an efficient and sustainable irrigation system.
Hengki Burmana, General Manager of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Tarahan Port Unit, expressed appreciation to the people of Lugusari Village who voluntarily donated land to support the development of the solar power plant. Hengki hopes that the solar-powered irrigation system will provide long-term benefits for the farmers.
"I ask the people of Lugusari Village to work together in maintaining and taking care of this solar power system, so its benefits can continue to be felt by the community," he remarked.
The solar-powered irrigation system in Lugusari Village consists of 40 solar panels installed on an area of 420 square meters. With a capacity of 23.4 kWp, the system is expected to irrigate agricultural land covering 380 to 500 hectares, thereby supporting increased agricultural productivity in the area. Approximately 267 farmers in Lugusari Village will benefit from the system.
The presence of the solar-powered irrigation system enables farmers in Lugusari Village to increase their harvest frequency. Prior to this, farmers in the area could only harvest once a year due to reliance on rain-fed irrigation. Now, they can harvest two to three times a year thanks to a year-round water supply provided by the irrigation pumps powered by the solar energy system.
