Bukit Asam (PTBA) Develops Eco Agrotomation Program Through Science Center
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) established the Eco Agrotomation Science Center as a collective learning facility for the program's continuous development.
Eco Agrotomation is PTBA's social innovation that encourages environmentally friendly, automation-based plant cultivation to support greening and reclamation programs in PTBA areas as well as other companies.
One of the initiatives that has taken place is the Micro & Small Business (UMK) Competency Sharing. Muhammad Zailani, a Tanjung Karangan Village local hero, was the speaker of the UMK Competency Sharing at the PT Bukit Asam Tbk Learning Center in Tanjung Enim on Friday, July 12, 2024, sharing about his experience in managing the Eco Agrotomation program.
Ayu Ruslan, one of the participants, said that the UMK Competency Sharing event gave her new insight about nurseries. She was also inspired by Zailani's achievement in empowering former Illegal Mining (PETI) workers to work in a nursery business.
"Mr. Zailani's success with Bukit Asam impressed me and inspired me to improve, particularly by engaging other local people. Tanjung Agung is one of the regions where illegal mining is common, thus Mr. Zailani's program brings about a significant improvement," she said.
Zailani collaborates with PTBA on the Eco Agrotomation program to empower farmers to carry out the plant nursery activities by utilizing an automation system. The farmers may more easily monitor and manage their crops using this automation system, which includes a monitoring dashboard. This automation system is powered by renewable energy, specifically solar power plants.
The plant seeds produced are then collected by PTBA for reclamation purposes. PTBA is not the only company collaborating with the farmers, there are several other companies too. The Eco Agrotomation program has helped the community's economy grow while also ensuring environmental sustainability.
Meanwhile, Hartono, VP Sustainability at PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), stated that Sharing Competency UMK, through the Eco Agrotomation Science Center, intends to promote the Eco Agrotomation program, share competencies, and motivate the community to help spread positive benefits to the surrounding environment.
"Hopefully, in the future, the fostered partners will gain new perspectives, enabling them to create benefits from both the social and economic sides," he concluded.
