Bukit Asam (PTBA) Building the Future Through Education

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) strives to improve the quality of human resources while tackling poverty by increasing access to education. For this reason, PTBA runs the Ayo Sekolah Program which provides education tuition assistance to elementary, middle and high school students from underprivileged families around the company area.
Throughout 2023, the Ayo Sekolah Program has provided educational assistance to 1,040 elementary school students, 969 middle school students and 1,002 high school students around PTBA's operational areas. The total number of recipients reached 3,011 students.
The annual support is Rp1.2 million for elementary school students, Rp1.5 million for junior high students, and Rp1.8 million for high school students.
"Ayo Sekolah program represents PTBA's true commitment to improving education as the foundation of sustainable development. This program not only provides financial aid to students in need, but also gives them better opportunity to develop and maximize their potential," said VP Sustainability PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Hartono.
PTBA's support for educational equality aligns with the 12 Year Compulsory Education program launched by the government, as well as the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SGD) 4, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and increase opportunities for lifelong learning for all.
"We believe that investing in education is a long-term investment that will provide many benefits to society, companies, and the country as a whole," said Hartono.
One of the Ayo Sekolah scholarship recipients, Rian Saputra from SMK 1 Muara Enim, expressed his gratitude to PTBA and said that he had received Ayo Sekolah scholarship assistance since he was in the fifth grade of elementary school. He finds this assistance to be very meaningful considering his parents’s background who work as daily laborers.
"Without the Ayo Sekolah Program, I would have had a tough time completing my studies. This support not only offered me access to a great education, but also gave me the option to pursue my dreams," he said.
Besides Ayo Sekolah Program, PTBA has The Education Scholarship Program for Students around Bukit Asam (Bidiksiba), a scholarship offered to high school graduates/equivalent from underprivileged families in the company's vicinity so that they can pursue further education at university level.
Between 2013 and 2023, 345 students from the company's operational areas received this scholarship. There are 102 students and 243 alumni. These graduates have landed careers in a variety of business disciplines.
