Bukit Asam (PTBA) Employees Ensure Energy Supply During Eid

After 30 days of fasting, Eid al-Fitr has finally arrived. This moment is truly special for Muslims, as they gather with family and share in the joy of celebrating the victory that follows the month of Ramadan.
However, not everyone has the opportunity to spend Eid with their families. Some individuals make sacrifices, choosing not to return to their hometowns to satisfy their longing, all in order to serve and support the community.
One of them is Mukhammad Idham (29), Supervisor Pit Service Swakelola of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA). He decided to stay instead of returning to his home in Bogor for Eid, choosing to maintain coal production.
After the Eid prayers, Idham returned to work at the mine at 10 a.m. For him, his role is more than just a means of earning a living, but to make a significant contribution to the sustainability of people's lives, especially on important days like Eid.
Coal supply is crucial for power plants that provide energy to millions of households and industries across Indonesia. Electricity must remain available to allow people to celebrate Eid in comfort, surrounded by the warmth of family and friends.
"This is a responsibility, I understand how important this job is. Coal production must not stop in order to maintain the energy supply for the community. After the Eid prayers, we return to the field at 10 am to resume production activities," said Idham.
While working at PTBA coal mine in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, Idham only returns home a few times a year. It had been six months since he last saw his parents and older brother in Bogor, West Java.
Idham longed to return to his hometown. He could almost smell the familiar aroma of coconut milk and onions, with beef liver and chili sauce—dishes his mother always prepared for Eid.
"During Eid, of course, it's my parents I miss the most. My mother usually cooks opor and sambal goreng hati," he said.
Similar to Idham, Deddi Pradana Putra, the Accident & Fire Supervisor at PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), also chose to fulfill his duties this Eid.
"I chose not to go home because I want to make sure that everything is ready during the holiday. I want to support the operational and production activities, making sure they run smoothly throughout Eid," he said.
It has been a year since Deddi last returned to his hometown in Bangkalan, Madura, East Java. This Eid, he was unable to enjoy the ketupat his mother made.
Without his family around during Eid, Deddi felt lonely. To cope with this, he joined other PTBA employees who also continued their duties throughout the holiday.
"At Bukit Asam, the sense of family is very strong. The bond between employees is close and open, which is why my loneliness was eased by colleagues who feel like family," he said.
Although he could not celebrate Eid with his family, Deddi felt that his decision was right. His sacrifice felt meaningful knowing that others could celebrate Eid comfortably in their hometowns.
"Hopefully, those of us working on Eid will continue to be blessed with strength and good health to carry out duties, and Bukit Asam can keep providing Sustainable Energy for Indonesia," said Deddi.
As one of Indonesia's largest coal mining companies, PTBA plays a crucial role in maintaining national energy security. Some employees continue their work, from mining operations to coal delivery, to ensure that power plants operate smoothly without disruption during the Eid holiday.
"We really appreciate the dedication of our employees who choose not to return home in order to ensure coal supply to meet the energy needs of the Indonesian people. We are committed to creating a comfortable Eid for the community," said Suhedi, Director of Operations & Production at PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA).
