Tutia Rahmi's Story, Raising Her Family's Status With a Scholarship from Bukit Asam (PTBA)

Tutia Rahmi was still unbelieving that she would be able to fulfill her dreams and elevate her family's status. She was raised in Air Lintang Village, Muara Enim, in a low-income household. Her mother does laundry and ironing.
In 2013, Tutia, who had just passed her final exams at vocational school, received a phone call from one of her teachers. The teacher inquired as to Tutia's desire to continue her study in college. Of course Tutia wanted to, but her family couldn't afford the tuition.
The teacher then invited Tutia to the socialization of the Bukit Asam Student Education Assistance Program (Bidiksiba). With enthusiasm, this girl, who was born in 1995, applied for a Bidiksiba scholarship. She was accepted into the Accounting Study Programme at Sriwijaya University (Unsri) and passed the Bidiksiba selection.
"At the time, I couldn't believe I could (study with Bidiksiba scholarship) for free. I enrolled in the accounting department of Sriwijaya University. Everything was funded, including the test and transportation fees to and from the test," said Tutia.
Tutia took advantage of the opportunity to further her studies in order to achieve her dream of becoming an auditor. Tutia graduated after three years and ten months. She then participated in the 2017 Civil Servant Candidate (CPNS) selection.
"I participated in the CPNS selection process after graduating in 2017, which coincided with the opening of a job for First Expert Auditor, which only allowed three persons to enter. I still couldn't believe I could outperform thousands of others. My dream of becoming an auditor came true. I currently work as a State Civil Apparatus (ASN),” she said.
Tutia's parents' wooden house, which nearly fell, has now been converted into a permanent structure. Her mother no longer has to work hard to do laundry and ironing.
"Alhamdulillah, I can improve my parents' status. What was once a collapsing wooden house has become a permanent structure. My mother no longer has to do laundry and ironing. That is what I am most grateful for: the opportunity to attend college through Bidiksiba. I am very grateful to Bukit Asam," said Tutia.
Dedy Saptaria Rosa, VP Sustainability of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), stated that the company is committed to supporting quality, inclusive, and equitable education for the community. The Bidiksiba Program is one of PTBA's efforts to achieve this.
Bidiksiba is a scholarship awarded to high school graduates/equivalents from underpriviledged households in the company's area so that they can pursue higher education.
"Through the Bidiksiba Program, we hope to participate in improving the quality of human resources while at the same time overcoming poverty," said Dedy.
Between 2013 and 2023, 345 youths from the company's neighborhood have received Bidiksiba scholarship. 102 of them are students and 243 are alumni who are now employed in different business fields.
