PTBA President Director Emphasizes the Importance of OHS Culture to Prevent Incidents
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) held a National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Month Ceremony at the KBL Ceremony Area, Tanjung Enim. The theme for the National OHS Month 2023 was "Realization of Decent Work with OHS Culture to Support Business Continuity in Every Workplace” as set by the Ministry of Manpower.
On this occasion, PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail acted as the Ceremonial Master. In his remarks, Arsal emphasized the importance of Occupational Health and Safety culture to prevent and minimize accidents and diseases. Ignoring OHS culture may cause death, material and moral losses, environmental pollution, and affect the productivity and welfare of society.
"OHS guarantees that every worker and other people in the workplace receive protection for their safety. OHS also guarantees that every source of production can be used safely and efficiently, and that the production process can run smoothly," said Arsal.
Statistically, work accidents mostly happen to the age group of 20 to 25 years. "We can see that young people have the potential to lack awareness of safe behavior. For this reason, we need more intense and innovative approaches and socialization of OHS, especially for the youth so they can be more concerned about OHS and implement it accordingly in the workplace," he said.
Arsal later said that the implementation of OHS standards needs to be maintained to support the national economy that is still recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and facing the threat of a recession. "Our job is to implement all the regulations well in order to realize the government's vision and mission in creating jobs and recovering the national economy," he emphasized.
Finally, Arsal expressed his gratitude to all parties who have supported and been actively involved in improving, promoting and developing OHS. "We ask for the guidance and protection of God Almighty, that we can continue to work while ensuring that the guarantee of the safety and health of the workforce is always maintained," he said.
