Supporting Sustainable Climate Action, PTBA Wins 2025 Proklim Village Mentor Award

Palembang, November 13, 2025 – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has once again achieved national recognition by winning the 2025 Proklim Village Mentor Award from the Ministry of Environment (KLH).
The award honors PTBA’s success in guiding Karang Raja Village to become a clean, resilient, and sustainable community through various initiatives in greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate change adaptation—aligned with the spirit of the Climate Village Program (Program Kampung Iklim or Proklim).
One of PTBA’s initiatives that has brought direct benefits to local residents is the construction of a Solar-Powered Irrigation System (PLTS Irigasi) in Karang Raja Village. This program has enabled farmers to increase their planting cycle from one to two harvests to three per year, while simultaneously contributing to carbon emission reduction and supporting Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission 2060 vision.
In addition, PTBA actively promotes organic farming to reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers. The company has also implemented biopore infiltration systems and tree planting in flood- and landslide-prone areas as part of community preparedness for the impacts of climate change.
Alongside PTBA, Karang Raja Village also received recognition in the Program Implementer category for its residents’ consistent and tangible environmental stewardship.
Through collaboration with communities, government, and various stakeholders, PTBA strives to make its fostered villages not just places to live, but centers of learning for a more sustainable environmental future.
“We realize that the Earth doesn’t need us to survive — it’s we who need the Earth to live. Therefore, every small step we take is an expression of gratitude and responsibility toward nature,” said PTBA Sustainability Division Head, Dedy Saptaria Rosa.
The award ceremony took place at Venue Kebon Gede, Palembang, in conjunction with the 2025 World Environment Day celebration, and was presented directly by the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru.
In his remarks, Herman encouraged the younger generation to revive the 3R spirit — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — which has proven effective in reducing plastic waste. He also urged the Department of Industry to develop creative recycling-based programs, such as environmentally friendly furniture with high economic value.
Beyond plastic waste, Herman also highlighted other urgent environmental issues such as overexploitation of natural resources, river sedimentation, and coastal abrasion that threaten ecosystems.
“Environmental preservation efforts must not be temporary. This has to become a continuous movement,” he emphasized.
Echoing that message, Dedy reaffirmed PTBA’s commitment to continuously apply sustainability principles across its business operations and community empowerment programs.
“For PTBA, this award is not merely a symbol—it is a reminder that every small step toward environmental balance holds great meaning for the future. This consistency has also led PTBA to earn numerous environmental recognitions, including the PROPER Award, which the company has received for more than a decade,” Dedy concluded.
