PTBA Invites Communities to Clean Up the Enim River and Kiahaan River on Environment Day

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) and the community worked together to clean up the Enim River and Kiahaan River, involving 375 participants from 5 communities, students, and 45 PTBA business partners. The river cleanup was part of a series of activities commemorating World Environment Day 2023.
Muara Enim Regency Environmental Service, the Muara Enim Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP), and the Muara Enim Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) also participated in this activity.
Using nine rubber boats, the river cleanup started from BTN Air Paku Intersection to the Bukit Asam Love Park, to Lingga Village in Lawang Kidul District. The river cleanup collected 1,167 kilograms (kg) of garbage.
"It is hoped that this activity will raise public awareness to keep the Enim River and other rivers clean, particularly in the Tanjung Enim area. Along the route, participants picked up trash, collected it for segregation, and then sent it to the Final Disposal Site. Through these activities, we hope to create a better Tanjung Enim environment," said Venpri Sagara, General Manager of PTBA Tanjung Enim Mining Unit (UPTE).
The Acting Head of the Muara Enim Fire and Rescue Service, Saprioma, highly appreciated the activity and hoped that his organization would later be part in similar activities that assist the preservation of the Enim River's environmental ecosystem.
Not only did PTBA clean the river on World Environment Day 2023, but it also held a selection of Environmental Ambassadors from high school level students in the company's operations area. In this event, the participants were given a briefing on environmental governance. PTBA also held a Green Mining event, socialization on waste management for students, and Hiking to Lake Cinta.
Huadian Bukit Asam Power’s Commitment to Reduce Plastic Pollution
In commemoration of World Environment Day 2023, PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP) signed a HSE policy at the Tanjung Lalang Power Plant (also known as the Sumsel-8 Mine Mouth Power Plant with a capacity of 2 x 660 MW).
"To support this activity, HBAP and all companies working in the Tanjung Lalang Power Plant are committed to maintaining safety and reducing plastic pollution," explained HBAP Site General Manager, Gusti Anggara.
Plastic pollution, according to HBAP Commercial Director Anita Parma, is a significant threat that impacts every community on the planet. Plastic pollution contributes to three types of global crises: climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. The majority of the plastic garbage that winds up in the oceans is caused by land pollution from humans.
"HBAP invites everyone in the Tanjung Lalang Power Plant area to do small things that can have a big impact, such as using reusable beverage packaging to reduce plastic waste and waste segregation to make recycling easier," Anita said.
