Downstream of Coal into Activated Carbon

Besides electricity generating purposes, coal can be extracted into various derivative products, such as activated carbon. Activated carbon is used for many things, from water and gas purification process, filters in food industry, color remover in sugar and food additive industries, to medicinal waste neutralizer in pharmaceutical industry so as not to harm the environment.
As one of the downstream products of coal, activated carbon is a form of carbon produced from the activation process until it has small, low-volume pores, functioning to absorb other substances that are harmful to humans and the environment.
Recorded during the last five years, the activated carbon market is growing rapidly in the segment of air purification, especially for hydrogen sulfide and chlorine, pungent odor and toxic gas compounds from industrial waste products. Other growing markets are in the segments of the pharmaceutical and land remediation application.
The Asia-Pacific region is the market with the most significant growth absorption volume in demand due to the increasing industrial investment, especially in automotive, and more manufacturing facilities shifted to several industrial areas in Asia-Pacific developing countries.
