Bukit Asam Plants Coral Reefs to Protect the Marine Ecosystem

As a commitment to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in maintaining marine ecosystems, PT Bukit Asam Tbk together with the Lampung Underwater Community planted and conserved the coral reef on Pahawang Island, Pesawaran, Lampung on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Coral reef conservation is also part of Bukit Asam's 41st Anniversary series with theme "Bukit Asam for a Better Life".
General Manager of Bukit Asam Tarahan Port, Dadar Wismoko, said that this activity has been and will be carried out continuously in various locations along the coast of Lampung.
"The underwater and coastal charm in Lampung Province is already well-known both nationally and internationally. This huge tourism potential needs to be maintained to improve the regional economy," said Dadar.
The coral reef conservation program on Pahawang Island used the same seeds as the Bukit Asam coral reefs planting in 2016. The types of coral reef planted consisted of Montipora danae, Acropora ocuminata, and Acropora micropthalma.
The planting used the method of cutting coral reef seedlings according to the media or shelves that have been prepared. The seeds were then planted and tied to avoid being washed away by the waves. The seed racks were then spread out at several underwater points around Pahawang Island.
The team also checked the coral reefs development from the previous planting program on Mablack Island and the Cukuh Bedil dive point. “The coral reefs are showing good development. We will continue to check them regularly," said Dadar.
On another occasion, President Director of Bukit Asam, Arsal Ismail, emphasized Bukit Asam’s commitment to continuously grow and develop with the local community, build a harmonious relationship in a sustainable environment, and provide the widest possible benefits to the community and the environment.
