To Preserve the Environment, Bukit Asam (PTBA) Invites the Community to Clean the Enim River
In commemoration of World Environment Day, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) organized a Trash Cleaning along Enim River activity, from Lingga Village to Karang Raja Village, on Saturday, June 22, 2024. There were 466 people participating this event including the community around the river.
General Manager of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Tanjung Enim Mining Unit, Venpri Sagara, said that PTBA chose the theme "Our Land, Our Future" for this year's World Environment Day celebration, to remind people that the actions we take on land and in the environment today will shape our future. Therefore, it is very important that all parties adhere to the principles of environmental sustainability.
"Rivers are a vital resource for life. The Enim River, with water sources spanning from Bedegung Waterfall to Muara Enim, plays an important role in sanitation, consumption, irrigation, industry, and habitat for many ecosystems. Thus, we all share responsibility for this river. We also have the responsibility to remind each other not to pollute the Enim River," he said.
According to him, the Trash Cleaning Along the Enim River event is a manifestation of PTBA's commitment to preserving the environment. "Bukit Asam intends to bring endless energy to the country and sustainability is an important aspect to make this happen," said Venpri.
Representative from the Muara Enim Environmental Service, Monalisa, expressed her appreciation to PT Bukit Asam Tbk for the initiative of this activity. "Thank you Bukit Asam for the initiative, we really need to remind one another that we are all responsible for this river," she said.
Edi Susanto, Lawang Kidul Subdistrict Head, emphasized the importance of this activity in encouraging all parties to participate in environmental protection. “This is not merely a CSR activity, but to remember that protecting the environment is the responsibility of all elements of society,” he said.
Trash Cleaning Along the Enim River aims to increase public awareness about the surrounding environment through collaboration among the Government, State-Owned Enterprises, communities and local residents.
The participants in this activity were able to gather about two tons of garbage. PTBA’s truck garbage then transferred it to the Muara Enim final disposal site.
