Bukit Asam Establishes Cooperation with Bintan Alumina Indonesia to Explore Fired Steam Power Plant (PLTU) Development Potential

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) and PT Bintan Alumina Indonesia (BAI) are exploring the potential for developing a steam power plant (PLTU) in the Galang Batang Special Economic Zone in Bintan, Riau Islands Province. This potential exploration was marked by the signing of the Initial Agreement (“Agreement”) which was carried out directly by the President Director of PTBA, Suryo Eko Hadianto and the Director of PT BAI, Santony at the Jakarta Representative Office of PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Menara Kadin, South Jakarta, Tuesday (December 21, 2021).
Through the signing of this agreement, PTBA and BAI plan to explore the development of a steam power plant with a minimum capacity of 900 MW. This plant is targeted to support the operations of PT BAI's alumina smelter.
“PTBA welcomes the signing of this agreement. This is in line with the company's business transformation plan into an energy company. We are optimistic that this collaboration will bring positive benefits to the company," said Suryo.
This exploration effort also opens up opportunities for PTBA to support the supply of coal for the smelter plant.
Having a vision to become a world-class energy and chemical company that cares about the environment, PTBA is currently conducting a business transformation to increase the company's contribution in supporting national energy security.
PTBA's first target of this business transformation is to become an energy business-based company in 2026 with a revenue target of 50% from the energy sector and 50% from the coal business.
