Towards its 39th anniversary, PT Bukit Asam Tbk organized 2020 Eucalyptus Trees Planting activity in the post-mining area of Bank 3 West Backfilling Pit, Tanjung Enim and the opening ceremony was launched by Bukit Asam Managing Director, Arviyan Arifin on Tuesday (11/2).
Supported by the Tanjung Enim Bersih Community, this activitiy was attended by hundreds of participants, from Bukit Asam employees, Muara Enim Regency government officials, to students at Tanjung Enim. While showing the methods adopted by the company in its efforts to protect the environment, that is; rehabilitating post-mining land functions by planting trees, Bukit Asam also invited the community to continue to preserve nature by planting trees.
"In line with the company's commitment and vision, we will restore all the post-mining area to function as before. We will continue to strive and be committed to protecting nature, "said Arviyan.
Bukit Asam has long been cultivating eucalyptus trees in its post-mining area. Eucalyptus trees are chosen because they are considered to be more formidable compared to other trees. They can survive in dry and barren land, and are resistant to heat, so if the eucalyptus tree catches fire, it can grow back.
Eucalyptus trees also have other benefits, as it can be processed to become Eucalyptus Oil. Bukit Asam expects this to give significant contribution to the community’s empowerment in the future.
