Study for Free at AKIPBA, Graduates Are Ready to Work in Mining Industry

Amanda Syafira was able to pursue further education despite her family's financial constraints. This is because the Bukit Asam Mining Industry Community Academy (AKIPBA) provides opportunity for students from underprivileged families in PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) operational area to pursue higher education through a scholarship program.
Amanda graduated from high school in 2019 and was determined to pursue her education. To make her dream come true, she was actively searching for scholarships to attend college. This woman from Tanjung Enim then learned about the admittance of new AKIPBA students through social media and took the courage to register.
“I really wanted to go to college, but my father's middling income wasn't enough to cover my further education expenses, so I had to look for a scholarship. Coincidentally, while browsing on social media, I came across information about AKIPBA. Finally, I registered for the 2019 AKIPBA program,” said Amanda.
Amanda went through all of the selection stages to enter the AKIPBA program, which included academic tests, psychological tests, interviews, surveys by the AKIPBA New Student Admissions committee team coming directly to the candidates’ home, and health tests. “Eventually, I passed the selection. At that time, I enrolled in the Mineral and Coal Mining Product Processing Engineering study program because I previously studied Mining Geology at Vocational High School," she said.
"I believed the Mineral and Coal Mining Product Processing Technicians study program would be roughly similar to my major at Vocational School. However, after completing the study, the subject covered in this program was much broader," she said.
While studying at AKIPBA, Amanda gained valuable knowledge and experience. In addition to teaching theories in the classroom, AKIPBA also offered many opportunities to learn directly in the field.
"AKIPBA students learn mathematics, physics, and other subjects in class. There is also actual field practice, such as transporting coal, where we learn how coal is acquired from the mine and transported by train to the port. We also learned about coal testing in the laboratory, conveyor maintenance, different types of equipment at the workshop, and also studied geology," she said.
Amanda finished her study at AKIPBA in 2020. She then enrolled to participate in the 2021 PT Bukit Asam Tbk Recruitment and was accepted. The skills she obtained at AKIPBA are very valuable.
"We are fully prepared to work when we graduate. I hope that AKIPBA will continue to develop in the future to advance the mining industry,” she said.
