PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) distributed aid to victims of the cold lava flash flood disaster in Agam Regency and Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra on Saturday, May 18, 2024, including rice, sardines, oil, instant noodles, milk, mineral water, medicines, and prayer equipment.
PTBA also sent a Disaster Response Team consisting of a Rescue Team, a Medical Team, and a Sustainability Team. PTBA Rescue Team immediately joined the Task Force Team to search for cold lava flood victims who had not yet been located and to aid the community in repairing emergency facilities.
Meanwhile, PTBA Medical Team established a free health clinic at PolKesDes (Village Health Polyclinic) Kenagarian Parambahan and distributed medicines to Tanah Datar District and Agam District Health Services. The Sustainability Team worked with PTBA Ombilin Mining Unit Team to provide basic food aid to Tanah Datar and Agam Regencies.
General Manager of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Ombilin Mining Unit, Yulfaizon, offered deep condolences following the disaster in Tanah Datar and Agam Regencies.
"We are deeply sorry for what occurred in Tanah Datar and Agam Regency. We hope that the support offered by PT Bukit Asam Tbk, such as rescue assistance, medical assistance, and basic food assistance, can reduce the burden on the people impacted by the disaster, and that the victims who have not been located can be discovered quickly," said Yulfaizon.
Eka Putra, Regent of Tanah Datar, expressed gratitude for PTBA's aid and hoped that it would help the victims.
"We are still searching for 11 people (victims of the cold lava flash flood) who have not been located. We hope that with the assistance provided by all of our friends, particularly PT Bukit Asam, we can achieve good outcomes. I would like to thank you for the assistance of basic food and medicines. Hopefully, this would benefit both the community and the victim's family," said Eka Putra.
Likewise, the Regional Secretary of Agam Regency, H Edi Busti, hopes that assistance from PTBA can alleviate the burden on disaster victims and help with the recovery.
"There were two sub-districts affected, and 23 individuals died, one of whom has yet to be located. The overall damage cannot yet be estimated. Hopefully, the assistance from donors and PTBA will alleviate the burden on those affected by the disaster," he stated.
Rina, a resident devastated by the cold lava flash flood, stated that her child is still frightened by the incident. Her child’s trauma remains especially after sunset or during rainy days. "Hopefully, medical treatment with Trauma Healing for Children may help to lessen depression in my child and others," she said.
Burhan, another disaster victim, claimed that the cold lava flood destroyed his home and all of his valuables. However, he was grateful that many parties, including PTBA, reached out to help the victims in getting back on their feet.
"I would also like to thank PT Bukit Asam for providing health assistance at PolKesDes. I thank God for the assistance that has been offered, hopefully it can help improve the current situation," he said.
