Commemorating its 41st Anniversary, Bukit Asam Affirms its Transformation
Commemorating its 41st Anniversary on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, PT Bukit Asam Tbk affirms its commitment on the transformation to become a world-class energy company that cares about the environment. This transformation aims to support the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target in 2060, increase the company's contribution to national energy security, and realize the Sustainability Development Goals/SDG's.
President Director of Bukit Asam, Arsal Ismail, explained that the transformation was carried out holistically, starting from business, digital, ways of thinking, to corporate culture to maximize the Company's role and contribution. According to him, transformation is a fundamental foundation in dealing with technological developments, geopolitical dynamics, market dynamics, and various other influential issues.
“Transformation is very challenging. It takes effort and struggle to become better and to provide a better life for others," said Arsal Ismail in his opening speech at the hybrid peak event of Bukit Asam's 41st Anniversary.
This transformation effort was also reflected in the 41st anniversary celebration with the theme "Bukit Asam for a Better Life". Various activities were held to enliven the anniversary series, starting from mid-January 2022.
Series of Activities
As a form of the company's commitment to the local community and to support sustainable development goals, a number of social assistance activities were held. A total of 18,410 food packages were distributed to underprivileged communities in each company unit, including the Tanjung Enim Mining Unit 9,000 packages, Tarahan Port 4,100 packages, Kertapati Pier 3,810 packages, Ombilin Mining 1,000 packages, and the Jakarta Representative Office 500 packages.
Bukit Asam also held house renovation program as an effort to create decent, safe, and resilient housing. A total of 25 housing units will be renovated with a budget of Rp1.23 billion.
In the health sector, Bukit Asam carried out cataract surgery and prosthetic support program. There were 33 people from five sub-districts in Muara Enim and Lahat regencies, namely Tanjung Agung, Lawang Kidul, Muara Enim, West Merapi, and East Merapi sub-districts had the cataract surgery. The operation was carried out at Bukit Asam Medika Hospital, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (Perdami) South Sumatra Branch.
Meanwhile, prosthetic limbs were distributed to 13 people in Muara Enim Regency. This program is carried out in two stages, namely the measurement which was carried out on February 8, 2022 at Bukit Asam Medika Hospital and the delivery and installation of prosthetic limbs on March 1, 2022 at the residential of each beneficiary.
Not only social activities, various competitions also enlivened the 41st Anniversary series, including Kujur batik design competition, story telling competition, smart quiz competition, English speech competition, Anniversary jingle competition, coloring/drawing competition, and virtual run competition.
As the highlight of the series, Bukit Asam distributed AYO SEKOLAH educational scholarship to elementary, middle, and high school students who came from underprivileged families in the area around the company. The beneficiaries of this program reached 3688 students consisting of 1747 elementary students, 986 junior high school students, and 955 high school students. The AYO SEKOLAH program disbursed Rp5.29 billion worth of funds.
The 41st Anniversary Peak event was also enlivened by the Jazz Tambang #1 presenting top Indonesian musicians such as Tulus, Andien, and Dewa Budjana. This event was held in a hybrid form adhere with health protocols.
Achievement
Not only was it enlivened by various social activities and actions, the Bukit Asam 41st Anniversary was also special due to the Company’s positive achievements. The Company's operations and finances had recorded a positive performance throughout 2021.
Until the end of November 2021, Bukit Asam recorded operating revenues of Rp26.2 trillion with a net profit of Rp7.0 trillion. This net profit is also the highest net profit achievement in the history of the Company's operations.
"It's certainly not an easy achievement. The company has gone through various challenges and obstacles to maintain its existence and sustainability," said Arsal.
On the other hand, business development and business diversification were intensively carried out including an increase in the portfolio of new and renewable energy-based power plants. This includes exploring the potential for cooperation in the development of solar power plants on the Jasa Marga Group toll road, which was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 2, 2022.
Coal downstream projects and a special economic zone in Tanjung Enim are also being developed to support integrated and sustainable energy and chemical business development. As part of its business transformation strategy, the Company also implements a Carbon Management Program to reduce carbon in its mining operations.
These various efforts and achievements are expected to accelerate the transformation of Bukit Asam, as well as to realize the Company's noble purpose to build civilization, improve welfare, and create a better life.
