Bukit Asam (PTBA) Strengthens Efficiency to Maintain Positive Performance

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the MIND ID Group, continues to strengthen operational and production efficiency in order to maintain positive performance. Several initiatives have been done to make the company more effective.
In the first quarter of 2024, the stripping ratio was maintained at 6.3x. In comparison, the strip ratio for the same period in 2023 is 7.1x. The company also reduces land and coal transportation distances through the use of conveyors.
PTBA also optimizes the role of its subsidiary operating in the mining services sector, PT Satria Bahana Sarana (SBS). Between January and March of 2024, PT SBS contributed 1.5 million tons or 21 percent of total production. This number increased by 29 percent annually.
"These efficiency efforts provides opportunities to increase profitability, while also making the company more agile in facing future challenges in the coal mining industry," said PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Corporate Secretary, Niko Chandra.
Niko added that PTBA also operates Eco Mechanized Mining Program, which aims to convert mining equipment that uses fossil fuels to electric, including 7 PC-3000 Shovel Electric Excavators, 40 hybrid 100 Ton class Dump Trucks (Diesel and Electric), and 6 Electric-based Mining Pumps. This Eco Mechanized Mining Program will allow the enterprise to save on diesel fuel use while also reducing emissions.
Aside from that, the company also uses E-Mining Reporting System, which is a real-time and online production reporting system designed to reduce the need for traditional fuel-based monitoring.
PTBA's cash costs in the first quarter of 2024 decreased by 10 percent to Rp867 thousand per ton as a result of these efficiency efforts. As compared to the cash costs in the first quarter of 2023 of Rp965 thousand per ton.
"The company is committed to implementing sustainable mining practices in accordance with its vision of becoming a world-class energy company that cares about the environment. We are optimistic that we can maintain good performance and meet targets until the end of 2024," said Niko.
