Tanjung Raja Farmers Benefit from Bukit Asam Organic Fertilizer
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) provided liquid organic fertilizer assistance to the members of the Sehati Farmers Group in Tanjung Raja Village, Muara Enim District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra.
The assistance of 10 liters of liquid organic fertilizer for every hectare of land was provided during the growing season from November 2022 to March 2023.
Farmers were relieved since the liquid organic fertilizer was more environmentally friendly and yields had gradually increased.
"The liquid organic fertilizer from PTBA has a positive impact, reducing the use of chemicals, and making it more practical to use. The yields have increased," said the Head of the Sehati Farmers Group, Tanjung Raja Village, Hopaini.
They also had no trouble obtaining fertilizer when planting season approached. Furthermore, agricultural production expenses were becoming more efficient. "The cost savings incurred because the farmers no longer had to buy fertilizer. We hope that the support will be available throughout the planting season. We truly appreciate the company's concern for the farmers," he said.
PTBA's VP of Sustainability, Hartono, explained that the organic fertilizer assistance was a form of PTBA's support for sustainable agriculture, increasing farmer welfare and the national food supply.
"PTBA is committed to continuing to implement sustainable programs that benefit and prosper the communities around PTBA's operational areas. In line with PTBA's Noble Purpose as a member of the MIND ID Group to explore natural resources for civilization, prosperity and a brighter future," Hartono said.
Not only organic fertilizer, PTBA had also built a Solar Power Plant to irrigate agricultural land in Tanjung Raja Village. This irrigation plant had been operating since 2020 with a capacity of 16.5 Kilowatt peak (kWp). With this irrigation plant, farmers in Tanjung Raja Village could harvest up to 2-3 times a year while previously relied on rainfed rice fields, which allowed them to harvest only once a year.
