PTBA Business Transformation and Diversification (2)

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) business focus has changed. The SOE transformed from a mining company and coal sellers into an energy provider. The energy was generated by steaming coal (steam sourced power plant). Based on PTBA 2014r annual report, the company's revenue increased by 16.7% from 11.21 trillion rupiah to 13.08 trillion rupiah.
One of PTBA strategic step was on improving efficiency by reducing the cost of electricity and switched to use its own electricity generated from the power plant. In Mulut Tambang, PTBA consumed the electricity power that comes from its 2 x 10 Megawatts power plant. While in Bandar Lampung, the electricity was generated from its owned 2 x 8 Megawatts power plant to support operation on Tarahan Port. Both power plants are fueled by fine coal. The excess electricity power were sold to State Electricity Company (PT. PLN) and even increased PTBA revenue approximately 55.44 billion rupiah.
In the near future, a 2 x 110 Megawatts of Banjarsari power plant will be finished and then another extension of Banjarsari II plant will be commenced. In addition, another 2 x 620 Megawatts power plant in Central Banko is scheduled to be ready to operate in 2019 has entering its stage of development. Meanwhile, 800-1200 Megawatts Peranap powerplant and 1000 Megawatts Inalum power plant of 1000 M are still on feasibility study stage.
On international market, PTBA is reviewing to aquire Ignite Resource Ltd shares and its technology on coal liquification and catalic hydro therma reactor (Cat HTR). Cat HTR is used to transform low calories coals into synthetic crude oil (SCO) to be further process into gasoline, avtur and diesel fuels.
