PTBA’s Various Support for the Tourism Sector

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has several programs to support the progress of the national tourism sector, including the Conservation of Coral Reefs, Rehabilitation of Watersheds, and Tanjung Enim Tourism City.
PTBA together with the Lampung Underwater Community has been planting and maintaining coral reefs habitation on Pahawang Island, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung, with a total of 160 coral seedlings planted, consisting of several species, such as Mortifore Danae, Acropora Ocuminata, and Acropora Micropthalma.
"We did the effort to maintain the charm of the underwater and coastal areas of Lampung Province that are well-known both nationally and internationally," said PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail.
PTBA also collaborates with the Berbak Sembilang National Park Agency (BTNBS) and the Musi River Basin Management Center (BPDAS) to restore the condition of Alanggantang Island, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. Since 2021, PTBA has planted mangroves as a measure for the rehabilitation of 300 hectare Watershed area on this island.
The sustainable mangrove forest on this island becomes the stopping place for migratory birds from Siberia, Russia, to look for food in October-February every year. This phenomenon attracts many tourists to come to Alanggantang Island.
"Mangrove rehabilitation is beneficial for the development of ecotourism on Alanggantang Island. The tourist visits drive the economy of the local community," he said.
PTBA also supports the development of Borobudur as a Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) through the rehabilitation of a 344 hectare watershed in the Menoreh Hill area, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region.
"Environmental sustainability around sites and cultural heritage areas needs to be maintained to prevent weathering of the stones of the temple structures. Menoreh is also a source of water for the people of Yogyakarta and Central Java. By restoring the environment, we are trying to protect natural water resources and increase the community productivity around tourism destinations," said Arsal.
Finally, PTBA in collaboration with the Government of Muara Enim Regency has launched the Tanjung Enim Tourism City Program to make Tanjung Enim coal mining area a tourist destination and be independent in the future.
These various supports for the tourism sector are in line with PTBA's noble purpose as a member of the MIND ID mining BUMN holding: we explore natural resources for civilization, prosperity, and brighter future.
"This is our commitment in the sustainability vision, especially in sustainable community and environmental management. We hope that these programs can improve people's lives from the tourism sector," said Arsal.
