Since 2012 Desember 21^st, PTBA set as one of the national vital objects refered to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Decree No. 3407/C/07/MEN/2012 about National vital objects in EMR sector. Based on 2013 Annual Meeting Result in 2013, 2013 PTBA developed  Safety Management System (SMS) refered to Indonesia Police Commissioner Regulation No. 2004/2007.

SMS Development integrated into SMBA conducted with consultant to be implemented in UPTE, Tarahan Port and Kertapati Jetty. SMP began with assessment and physical security design for the 3 locations was condiucted in April 2013. The next phase was the development phase to set manufacture and review procedures, vital objects security plan workshop in September 2013. The third phase was the implementation, by conducting an internal audit for SMP and its socialization. Currently, PTBA implement the SMP as part of its SMBA.
