Muara Enim, January 22, 2025 - In an effort to support national food security, the Indonesian National Police and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia carried out a simultaneous corn planting initiative across 1 million hectares throughout Indonesia on Tuesday (January 21, 2025).
The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, participated virtually to provide guidance. Both emphasized the importance of ensuring food availability as a national priority.
In Muara Enim Regency, the simultaneous corn planting was centered in Pasar Tanjung Enim Village. The Muara Enim Police collaborated with the Muara Enim Department of Agriculture & Plantations, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), and other stakeholders in this initiative.
"We believe this initiative not only strengthens national food security but also has a positive impact on the welfare of the local community, especially in Muara Enim," stated AKBP Jhoni Eka Putra, the Head of Muara Enim Police.
Satria Wirawan, General Manager of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Tanjung Enim Mining Unit, expressed PTBA's support for the realization of Asta Cita, a government agenda. One of the priorities of Asta Cita is achieving food self-sufficiency. PTBA provided assistance in the form of land area, agricultural machinery (alsintan), and corn seeds for this program.
"As part of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), we are committed to making a tangible impact on the community, especially in the areas around our operations," said Satria.
In addition to increasing food production, the simultaneous planting of 1 million hectares of corn is expected to open new economic opportunities for farmers and local communities. In his remarks, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman praised the synergy established between the government, the police, state-owned enterprises, the private sector, and the community. "This collaboration is the key to the success of the program, which not only strengthens food security but also empowers farmers in various regions," said Amran.
