Enhancing Children's Numeracy Skills: Bukit Asam Holds Gasing Method Training in Lampung
Lampung, October 16, 2024 - In collaboration with the Education Office of Bandar Lampung, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Tarahan Port Unit held Nalom Ngitung Makai Training using the Gasing Method (Easy, Fun and Enjoyable) at BPMP (Education Quality Assurance Center) Lampung Province on October 7-23, 2024.
The Gasing method, developed by Prof. Yohanes Surya, aims to improve the numeracy skills of both teachers and elementary school students. The training was attended by 48 elementary school teachers and 96 students from various sub-districts in Bandar Lampung.
The training event was inaugurated by Budhi Darmawan, the Acting Mayor of Bandar Lampung, and attended by Hengki Burmana, General Manager of PTBA Tarahan Port Unit; Hartono, VP of Sustainability at PTBA; Satya Nugraha, Division Head of CSR at MIND ID; and Prof. Yohanes Surya, the creator of the Gasing method.
"I express my appreciation to all parties who have supported the organization of this training activity, hoping it will have a positive impact
on the education sector in Bandar Lampung," said Budhi Darmawan in his opening remarks.
On the same occasion, Hengki Burmana emphasized that PTBA is committed to making a positive contribution to the welfare of communities around its operational areas, particularly in the field of education.
Quality education is a long-term social investment aimed at preparing an excellent future generation.
"Through collaboration with the Bandar Lampung City Education Department and supported by BPMP Lampung Province, PTBA is committed to advancing education in Lampung. This training is expected to enhance the mathematical competencies of elementary school students through enjoyable learning methods," said Hengki Burmana.
It is noteworthy that in the Gasing learning approach, children are encouraged to play and explore with props so that they really feel and imagine the concepts they want to convey. Abstract things are always preceded by something concrete, so that children can understand and apply the concepts taught much more easily. One of the characteristics of the Gasing method is that children can do calculations quickly.
