This innovative program entered the replication phase, utilizing the former illegal mining stockpile land in Darmo Village as a nursery development site.
Land that was once part of illegal mining activities, is now ready to transform into a productive asset to support food security and the Community Development & Empowerment Program (PPM). PTBA collaborated with various parties, including Lamban Kelor from Lampung, SIBA (Bukit Asam Industrial Center) Dream Village Program Nursery, and local institutions. The program is specifically driven through Darmo Village Cahaya Tani Group, which has become a pioneer in the development of nurseries of various types of productive plants.
Mustafa Kamal, PTBA’s Department Head of Sustainable Economy, Social, and Environment, stated, "This activity is an integral part of our long-term strategy in encouraging the community's economic transition from extractive activities that damage the environment to sustainable agribusiness. In addition to restoring critical land, this program also serves as a platform for community empowerment through a strong participatory and collaborative approach."
Optimism was also conveyed by Yandri, Chairman of the Cahaya Tani Group.. "It is a great hope that the Darmo Village Community can become a successful example of We have high hopes that the Darmo Village community can become a successful example of the Transformation of Illegal Mining (PETI) areas into centers of agricultural-based economic growth and a movement of change towards village independence, environmental restoration, and improving community welfare," concluded Yandri.
The main objective of this program is to support food security and sustainable community economic empowerment. Moreover, this program aims to build the independence of village communities through strengthening the capacity of local farmer groups, encouraging collaboration between parties, and creating an agricultural ecosystem that is able to improve welfare, restore land ecological function, and become a replication model for other former PETI areas.
The implementation of the PETI Transformation Program in Darmo Village began with a field survey by the Sustainable Community Development team at PT Bukit Asam Tbk, together with community representatives, to assess land conditions. Initial activities included land clearing and preparation, construction of nursery facilities, technical training for group members, and planting various types of productive plant seeds. A participatory approach was applied so that the community is not only beneficiary, but also the main actor in economic transformation and environmental restoration. The program is implemented in stages, with a monitoring system to ensure sustainability and strengthen the group’s capacity as a driver of sustainable agriculture in former illegal mining areas.
