More Than a Ceremony, PTBA Uses National OHS Month as Momentum to Build a Safe Work Culture
Muara Enim, 20 January 2026 – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) once again reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining occupational safety and health (OSH) during the National OSH Month, which is observed annually from 12 January to 12 February.
One of the initiatives was the National Movement (Gernas) OSH Month ceremony held at the PTBA Head Office Field in Tanjung Enim, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, on Monday (19/1/2026).
President Director of PTBA, Arsal Ismail, emphasized that the commemoration of National OSH Month is not merely an annual ceremonial agenda, but a national moment of reflection to reaffirm the collective commitment to protecting Indonesian workers and building a safe, healthy, productive, and dignified workplace.
He further stressed that companies must change their mindset, where OSH should no longer be viewed as the responsibility of a specific unit or merely the duty of OSH officers.
“OSH is a work culture. OSH is part of leadership. Every leader, every supervisor, and every worker is directly responsible for their own safety and the safety of their colleagues,” he explained.
The theme of the 2026 National OSH Month is “Building a Professional, Reliable, and Collaborative OSH Management Ecosystem.”
According to Arsal, building an OSH ecosystem means establishing comprehensive connectivity among all stakeholders who can influence and are affected by OSH performance. Each actor moves in the same direction toward a common goal: preventing accidents and protecting workers.
“Professional” means that all PTBA personnel are required to work according to their competencies, adhere to standards, have the courage to stop unsafe work, and use data and risk assessment as the basis for decision-making. OSH professionalism is not measured by documentation, but by behavior in the field.
“Reliable” means that the OSH system must be consistent, disciplined, and capable of functioning under various conditions. A reliable system does not depend on certain individuals, but is firmly embedded in processes, procedures, and continuous supervision. OSH reliability is reflected in preparedness for emergencies and the ability to prevent accidents before they occur.
Meanwhile, “collaborative” underscores that no single party can manage OSH alone. Collaboration is key: collaboration between government and business, between management and workers, across sectors and disciplines. Collaboration also means sharing best practices, learning from failures, and building trust.
In addition to the ceremony, the National OSH Month Committee also organized a blood donation drive as a tangible demonstration of the Company’s concern for occupational safety and health, as well as a social contribution to support community blood supply needs.
The activity, conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Muara Enim Branch, was attended by PTBA employees and business partners and carried out in accordance with applicable blood donation service and safety standards.
PTBA Corporate SHE Division Head, Yuhendri Wisra, stated that the commemoration of National OSH Month does not only focus on preventing workplace accidents and occupational diseases, but also serves as a momentum to foster a healthy, caring, and human-value-oriented work culture, particularly toward surrounding communities.
The blood donation activity aims to increase workers’ awareness and participation in humanitarian actions, strengthen social solidarity in the workplace, and support the availability of blood supplies through PMI as part of the Company’s social responsibility. This activity also aligns with the spirit of OSH, which emphasizes the importance of protecting workers’ health and making positive contributions to the surrounding community.
A total of 142 blood bags were collected thanks to the active participation of PTBA employees and business partners. All collected blood was subsequently delivered to the PMI Muara Enim Branch for further testing, processing, and storage before being distributed to those in need in accordance with applicable regulations.
“Through this activity, it is hoped that the spirit of National OSH Month can continue to be implemented sustainably through programs that not only focus on occupational safety and health, but also strengthen social awareness and humanitarian values within the PTBA environment,” Yuhendri explained.
As part of the National OSH Month commemoration, PTBA also organized a series of other activities, such as Health and Safety Webinars and Safety Goes to School programs.
Arsal added that ultimately, OSH is not merely a regulatory obligation. OSH is a value that every worker has the right to return home safely. It is a value that productivity and safety must go hand in hand. It is a value that represents a shared responsibility.
“Let us make this National OSH Month a momentum to strengthen commitment, improve systems, and build a safe and healthy work culture throughout Indonesia,” he concluded.
