Operational Performance Maintained, Bukit Asam (PTBA) Records Revenue of IDR 20.45 Trillion in First Half of 2025

From January to June 2025, PTBA's coal production volume reached 21.73 million tons, an increase of 16% from 18.76 million tons in H1 2024. Sales volume also rose by 8% to 21.62 million tons, up from 20.05 million tons in the same period last year.
Of the total sales, 54% were for the domestic market and 46% for export. Despite a drop in demand from major export destinations such as China, PTBA maintained strong sales performance by expanding its export reach to countries including Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand.
In line with increased production and sales, coal transportation volume also rose by 9% to 19.27 million tons, from 17.70 million tons in H1 2024. This was supported by supply chain optimization and continuous improvements in logistics efficiency.
These operational improvements contributed to PTBA's consolidated revenue of IDR 20.45 trillion, a 4% increase compared to IDR 19.64 trillion in the same period last year. The Company's total assets also grew by 2%, from IDR 41.79 trillion as of December 31, 2024, to IDR 42.68 trillion as of June 30, 2025.
PTBA recorded a net profit of IDR 833.05 billion, with EBITDA reaching IDR 2.20 trillion.
Global coal price pressures was a major challenge in H1 2025. The ICI-3 index fell by 14% year-on-year, from USD 75.89 to USD 65.15 per ton, while the Newcastle index dropped 22%, from USD 130.66 to USD 102.51 per ton.
To navigate these conditions, PTBA implemented adaptive marketing strategies, diversified its markets, and managed a varied customer portfolio. The Company recorded an average selling price of IDR 930,000 per ton, down 4% compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, operating costs rose due to an increase in fuel prices, which averaged IDR 14,666 per liter, up 7% from IDR 13,682 per liter last year. Fuel consumption also increased, in line with higher production volumes and longer transport distances.
"PTBA continues to strengthen operations. Despite global market pressures, the Company has managed to post positive performance. Going forward, we will focus on cost efficiency, asset performance, and expanding a sustainable business portfolio," said Niko Chandra, Corporate Secretary of PTBA.
Renewable Energy Development
As part of its commitment to energy transition and the Net Zero Emission 2060 target, PTBA continues to expand its portfolio in the new and renewable energy (NRE) sector. This aligns with the Company's vision of becoming a world-class energy enterprise with environmental responsibility.
On June 17, 2025, PTBA, through its subsidiary, PT Bukit Energi Investama (BEI), officially began operations of the Timah Industri Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 303.1 kWp in the Cilegon Industrial Area. This project is a strategic collaboration between BEI (as investor), PT Krakatau Chandra Energy (area manager and EPC contractor), and PT Timah Industri (energy user).
With this addition, PTBA's total installed PLTS capacity now reaches 1 megawatt-peak (MWp), marking a concrete step toward a low-carbon and sustainable business model.
Corporate Governance Recognition
PTBA's commitment to sustainability and strong corporate governance was also recognized at the regional level. At the 2025 ASEAN Corporate Governance Conference & Awards (ASEAN CGCA) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, PTBA was honored as an ASEAN Asset Class Public Listed Company.
"With a positive performance in the first half of the year, PTBA remains optimistic about the second half of 2025, driven by sustainable strategies focused on efficiency, market expansion, and excellent governance," Niko concluded.
