Strengthening HR and OHS Management, Minister of Manpower Visits PTBA Headquarters

Tanjung Enim, 9 February 2026 – Indonesia’s Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, paid a working visit to the headquarters of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra.
The visit marked an important momentum to strengthen synergy between the government and the business sector, particularly in human resource management and the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) as a key foundation for a productive and sustainable workplace, including in the mining sector.
In his remarks, Minister Yassierli stated that in 2025 the Ministry had carried out various initiatives to strengthen OHS.
First, refining the regulatory framework and OHS standards to be more adaptive to changes in the world of work.
Second, conducting continuous OHS training and certification programs for the workforce.
Third, expanding awareness campaigns to foster an OHS culture among labor unions and company management.
In addition, the Ministry has strengthened collaboration with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, the business sector, professional associations, universities, and regional governments.
“We are also encouraging the digital transformation of OHS services through simplified certification processes, enhancements to the Teman K3 application, the launch of the Lapor Menaker reporting channel, and strengthening the database on workplace accidents and occupational diseases to ensure faster, more transparent, and accountable handling,” he explained.
On the other hand, the Ministry continues to reinforce the integrity of OHS services. Violations will not be tolerated, with the implementation of integrity pacts, suspension of permits for non-compliant PJK3 providers, and strict enforcement against any form of misconduct.
“Occupational safety and health must become a culture, not merely an administrative obligation. Companies that prioritize OHS will be able to maintain productivity, business sustainability, and employee well-being. PTBA has demonstrated a strong commitment in this regard,” Minister Yassierli emphasized.
President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Arsal Ismail, affirmed that OHS is a fundamental value in all company operations, in line with good corporate governance and sustainability principles.
“For PTBA, safety is the foundation of our operations. We ensure all business activities are conducted under strict OHS standards to protect employees, partners, and the surrounding environment. This commitment continues to be strengthened through supervision, guidance, and active management involvement,” Arsal explained.
Meanwhile, PT Bukit Asam Tbk Human Capital Director, Ihsanudin Usman, stated that the Minister’s visit was an honor for PTBA and a strong motivation to further enhance human resource management and OHS implementation in a sustainable manner.
“We currently have 1,681 organic employees recruited transparently and accountably from across Indonesia, while ensuring local workforce representation. More than 20% of our employees are women, and nearly 30% hold structural positions, reflecting our commitment to equality and career development,” said Ihsanudin Usman.
He added that the majority of PTBA employees come from younger generations—Gen Z and Millennials—serving as a key driver for transformation and adaptive work culture. In addition to organic employees, the company’s operations are supported by more than 16,000 contractor and outsourced workers, making OHS standards applicable across the entire PTBA work ecosystem.
In terms of OHS, PTBA has implemented the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (SMK3) in accordance with Government Regulation No. 50 of 2012 and ISO 45001:2018 across all company units. OHS programs are carried out through two main pillars—workplace safety and occupational health and environment—covering hazard identification and risk assessment, routine inspections, OHS coaching, emergency preparedness, and monitoring of employee health and workplace conditions.
“PTBA’s OHS performance achievements are reflected in Frequency Rate and Severity Rate values that remain below national benchmarks. This is not merely statistical data, but the result of a collective commitment from all company personnel to place safety as a core value,” Ihsanudin Usman added.
Through this visit, PTBA hopes to further strengthen collaboration between the government and the business sector in building a safe, healthy, productive, and globally competitive employment ecosystem, particularly in South Sumatra.
