Dream Village Program Earns PT Bukit Asam International Recognition
Tanjung Enim, July 13, 2026 – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of MIND ID, Indonesia's State-Owned Mining Industry Holding, has once again earned international recognition. Through its Dream Village (Desa Impian) Program, PTBA received the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2026 in the Social Empowerment category.
The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA), organized by Enterprise Asia, recognize companies across Asia that have successfully implemented sustainable business practices while creating tangible social impact. The winners were announced during the AREA 2026 Awards Ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
PTBA's Corporate Secretary Division Head, Eko Prayitno, stated that the award reflects the Company's strong commitment to implementing community empowerment programs that not only generate economic benefits but also promote social transformation and environmental sustainability.
"This award serves as a motivation for the Company to continue delivering community empowerment programs that create meaningful and lasting benefits. We believe that sustainability can only be achieved through collaboration that empowers communities to become self-reliant, improves their quality of life, and preserves the environment. The Dream Village Program embodies this commitment by placing local communities at the center of sustainable change," said Eko.
The Dream Village Program is a community empowerment initiative that focuses on social, economic, and environmental transformation by developing legal, productive, and sustainable livelihoods. The program adopts a circular economy approach by integrating agriculture, livestock farming, and fisheries while fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships to build long-term community resilience and self-sufficiency.
The program was initiated in response to various social and economic challenges faced by communities in Muara Enim Regency. Its primary beneficiaries include former illegal miners with low and unstable incomes, housewives from underprivileged families with limited access to productive economic activities, and children with inadequate access to education and skills development. The community's dependence on illegal mining had also resulted in environmental degradation, social conflicts, and the underutilization of land with significant potential for productive agricultural development.
By the end of 2025, the Dream Village Program had delivered significant impacts. Community members' monthly income increased to between IDR 2 million and IDR 10 million, while participating business groups generated an annual turnover of approximately IDR 10.5 billion. The program has also successfully transformed the livelihoods of former illegal miners into other legal and sustainable business sectors.
From an environmental perspective, the Dream Village Program manages 7.1 tons of non-hazardous waste annually, processes 10 tons of livestock waste into organic fertilizer, has planted 131,969 tree seedlings contributing to the sequestration of more than 4,284 tons of CO₂ annually, improves water-use efficiency by 268,183 liters per year, and reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions through the utilization of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
Eko added that PTBA will continue strengthening the sustainability of the Dream Village Program through the development of Sentra Ilmu (Knowledge Center) as an agricultural learning hub, strengthening cooperative institutions, digitalizing partnership systems through Agro Bank, nurturing local champions, and replicating the program in other regions.
"We hope the Dream Village Program will continue to grow as a community empowerment model that can be replicated in various regions. Through collaboration with multiple stakeholders, PTBA remains committed to creating shared value that improves community welfare while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," Eko concluded.
