PTBA Strengthens Economic Independence of Lahat Communities through Layer Chicken Farming

Lahat, August 11, 2026 – PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk (PTBA) continues to strengthen its commitment to promoting economic independence among communities living around its operational areas.
Through its Community Development and Empowerment Program (Program Pengembangan dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat/PPM), PTBA organized a Training and Capacity Building Program for Household- and Community-Scale Layer Chicken Farming in Sirah Pulau Village, East Merapi District, Lahat Regency. The activity, attended by approximately 100 beneficiary families of PTBA’s PPM Program, marked the initial stage of an economic empowerment initiative focused on layer chicken farming.
In the first phase, PTBA provided support in the form of 2,400 layer chickens, the construction of 50 household-scale coops and one communal coop, feed supplies, and technical assistance from experts. The support is expected to serve as initial capital for the community to develop productive and sustainable businesses.
PTBA Corporate Secretary Division Head Eko Prayitno said that community empowerment is part of the Company’s commitment to creating long-term benefits for communities around its operational areas.
“PTBA not only provides assistance, but also seeks to build the capacity of communities so they can independently manage and develop their businesses. Through layer chicken farming, we hope the people of Sirah Pulau Village can establish an alternative source of productive and sustainable income while also contributing to strengthening food security at the local level,” said Eko.
According to Eko, the success of community empowerment programs requires collaboration and active involvement from all stakeholders, including the village government, implementation partners, experts, and beneficiary communities.
“We designed this program to be implemented gradually and in a measurable manner. In addition to providing facilities and infrastructure, the community receives training and technical assistance to equip them with adequate knowledge and skills to manage layer chicken farming. We hope this business can continue to grow and generate a tangible impact on improving community welfare,” he added.
As part of the training, PTBA collaborated with Rumah Kreatif Sriwijaya as the implementing partner and invited layer chicken farming expert Muhammad Yusuf, S.Pt., M.Si. as the speaker. The program also received support from the Community Development and Empowerment Forum (Forum Pengembangan dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat/FP2M) and the Sirah Pulau Village Government.
