PTBA Strengthens Post-Flood Psychological Recovery and Educational Support in Sumatra

Agam, April 14, 2026 – PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk (PTBA), a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting post-disaster community recovery through the Cakrawala – Recovery Sumatra program. This initiative, which is part of the series of activities commemorating PTBA’s 45th Anniversary, was carried out on April 5–9, 2026, in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, focusing on psychological recovery and the provision of educational facilities.
The program was launched in response to the floods that struck West Sumatra, which significantly impacted social and psychological conditions, as well as teaching and learning activities, particularly for students and educators.
PTBA’s Corporate Secretary, Eko Prayitno, emphasized that this program reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the community.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility, PTBA strives to be present for communities, especially in post-disaster situations. Through the Cakrawala – Recovery Sumatra program, we aim to ensure that recovery efforts address not only physical aspects but also psychological well-being, while supporting the continuity of education for the younger generation,” said Eko.
The program was implemented across several affected locations, including the temporary school of SMA Muhammadiyah Salareh Aia, TK Al-Ikhsan, PAUD Aisyah, and TK Amanah in Palembayan District, as well as SDN 14 Labuah in Tanjung Raya District. The activities were carried out by PTBA’s team in collaboration with social partner Kitabisa, with support from school principals and local educators.
Ajis Purnomo, Coordinator of the Social and Cakrawala Division for PTBA’s 45th Anniversary, stated that the program was designed comprehensively through survey and assessment stages to ensure that the assistance provided was well-targeted.
One of the program’s main focuses was the provision of Psychological First Aid (PFA) to students through interactive and educational approaches. Activities included group games, storytelling sessions, creative exercises such as drawing and building a “tree of hopes,” as well as motivational sessions to strengthen students’ mental well-being. This approach has proven effective in reducing anxiety and trauma while fostering a more positive and engaging learning environment.
In addition, PTBA provided operational support for schools to ensure the continuity of educational activities. This support included improvements to temporary school facilities, provision of clean water infrastructure, and educational supplies such as laptops, printers, speakers, stationery, reading materials, and sports equipment.
A total of 219 gift packages were distributed to students, along with 21 appreciation packages for teachers. PTBA also provided uniforms for educators at SDN 14 Labuah as part of its support for the continuity of teaching and learning activities.
Going forward, PTBA will continue the Recovery Sumatra program through various follow-up initiatives, including school building revitalization and the provision of clean water sources. One of the priorities is the construction of permanent facilities for SMA Muhammadiyah Salareh Aia, which is currently still conducting classes in temporary tents.
This program aligns with PTBA’s commitment to implementing corporate social responsibility and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in education and community well-being.
