PTBA Implements ESG for National Energy Sustainability and Security
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the mining BUMN holding MIND ID, affirmed its commitment to implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) in running its sustainable business and supporting national energy security.
PTBA ensures the implementation of international regulations that refer to the United Nation Sustainability Development Goal's (UN SDG's) Guidelines, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and the Mining Principles of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) which have been consistently implemented to all business processes in the Company.
The implementation of PTBA’s ESG is also to respond to global demands related to Climate Change and support for the Net Zero Carbon target that has been set by the Indonesian government. PTBA also demonstrated its commitment to the issue of Climate Change by strategic collaboration with CDP institutions in the form of assistance in the preparation of the PTBA CDP-Climate Change Report, which will be published in early December 2021.
President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk Suryo Eko Hadianto emphasized that ESG is the main requirement for companies to have a going concern in moving forward.
“We must not only think about what to do today, but also about this company in the future and how this company will be sustainable,” Suryo said, “ESG must be ingrained in every employee's heart in carrying out their work.”
“We have put the environmental aspects of ESG into our vision, which is to become a world-class energy and chemical company that cares about the environment. From this vision – care for the environment – the ESG must be comprised," said Suryo Eko at the ESG Management System Workshop, which was held in hybrid in order to comply with the health protocols, Tuesday (November 30, 2021).
Meanwhile, for the Social element, PTBA also has a series of programs to improve the welfare of the community. One of them is the poverty alleviation program, which was launched last November, to eradicate poverty in the Lawang Kidul area, Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra.
“Almost all of PTBA's business activities are located in Lawang Kidul. This form of social concern must be based on a philosophical and basic understanding. We need to manage social care from the heart, so that none of the communities around our mines are poor.”
The most essential element of governance is integrity. Suryo said the issue of integrity is always emphasized many times in every activity.
ESG is also related to sustainability: to the environment, to the social life around us and to the company's business. This ESG system is one step towards the 3 sustainability.
In the workshop, there were also Sharing Sessions related to ESG Flashback 2021 and ESG Outlook 2022, Sharing about Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) by the CSR Work Unit, Sharing about Poverty Alleviation Programs by the Poverty Alleviation Team, Sharing about Corporate Risk and Preparation Workshop The ESG Stock Code Working Paper refers to the 2021 RKAP Work Program, 2022 Work Program and plans for the next 5 years.
