Poultry Farming at Sawahlunto

Bukit Asam Ombilin Mining held training on poultry farming involving the community and academics. Synergy is important for mutual prosperity. Thus, Bukit Asam facilitated community training for poultry farmers with access to capital/marketing, academics and government officials in the Poultry Farming Development Training event at the Bukit Asam Mining Hall Ombilin on November 15, 2021.
Head of the Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Service (DKP3) of Sawahlunto City, Heni Purwaningsih, reported that the training was attended by 70 poultry farmers, 30 agricultural extension workers and farming officers and 37 village heads.
“The trainers are from PT Rajawali (a poultry company) who delivered material about the business partnership program of this poultry farm. We thank Bukit Asam for facilitating this event,” said Heni.
According to Heni, the total population of laying hens in Sawahlunto City in 2020 is 47,065 native chickens, 23,048 laying hens and 18,654 laying ducks. Meanwhile, egg production has reached 228.78 tons/year. "Egg consumption at the West Sumatra Province level is 76.30 kg/capita/year, while the egg consumption in Sawahlunto is 36.02 kg/capita/year. This shows that there is still a large market share that has not been met by egg production from our poultry farmers,” she said.
The Mayor of Sawahlunto, Deri Asta, said that in the 2022 APBD, the Sawahlunto City Government allocated a budget to provide livestock assistance in the form of goats for 50 families with details of 3 goats per family; Ducks and chickens for 20 families or 100 ducks/chickens per family. "This is the commitment of the Sawahlunto City Government in supporting the growth of livestock in Sawahlunto as well as encouraging the improvement of the community's economy," said Mayor Deri Asta.
To increase the livestock sector impact and awareness reach, the Mayor also invited the Village Government to be actively involved through the allocation of funds in the APBDes. “The village and sub-district governments need to be more intensive in programs like this, providing livestock assistance to the community. If there is collaboration between the City and the Village Governments, the number of people who receive will increase and it will be more beneficial,"said Deri Asta.
