Transforming Former Illegal Miners Through a Joint Harvest of Tilapia Fish Farming in Tanjung Agung Village

Tanjung Agung, November 3, 2025 – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) continues to demonstrate its commitment to transforming post-mining community economies through various sustainable empowerment programs. One such initiative was realized through a Joint Harvest Event for Tilapia Fish Farming, organized by the Putra Susukan Fish Farming Group, one of PTBA’s assisted partners in Tanjung Agung Village, Tanjung Agung Subdistrict, Muara Enim Regency.
This joint harvest activity is part of the 2025 Illegal Mining Transformation Program (PETI), which aims to shift community activities from illegal mining toward more productive, environmentally friendly, and sustainable economic sectors.
The event was attended by Dedy Saptaria Rosa, Sustainability Division Head of PT Bukit Asam Tbk; Yusuf, Head of Government Affairs representing the Tanjung Agung Village Government; Ajis Purnomo, Sustainable Community Development Section Head of PTBA; and Putra Zaman, Chairman of the Putra Susukan Fish Farming Group.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Putra Susukan Group, Putra Zaman, expressed appreciation and gratitude to PT Bukit Asam for the support provided since the program began.
“We are very grateful for Bukit Asam’s continuous support, which has enabled us to increase the productivity of our business. Through this event, we can showcase the results of our efforts as a form of commitment and gratitude for Bukit Asam’s assistance in the PETI Transformation initiative, which has helped improve the prosperity of our community,” he said.
Meanwhile, PTBA’s Sustainability Division Head, Dedy Saptaria Rosa, expressed appreciation to all the assisted groups involved in the activity.
“Bukit Asam strives to contribute to the community, ensuring that our initiatives deliver tangible benefits. Tilapia fish farming holds tremendous potential, as fish is one of the main food commodities in our society. This program could also open broader market opportunities — such as fish floss production and other derivatives — while enhancing business capacity and reducing illegal mining activities,” he stated.
As part of its support for the fish farming group, Bukit Asam distributed 10,000 tilapia fish seeds, of which 4,000 were allocated to other assisted pond groups and 6,000 were managed directly by the Putra Susukan Group. In a single harvest cycle, the group can produce approximately one ton of tilapia, which is sold to local communities, retailers, traditional markets, and nearby restaurants.
The joint harvest event also brought together participants from other assisted community groups, including fish hatchery units, quail farmers, and maggot cultivators — demonstrating PTBA’s cross-community synergy in building a mutually supportive microenterprise ecosystem.
Through empowerment initiatives such as this, Bukit Asam hopes to continuously enhance the productivity and competitiveness of fish farming groups in Tanjung Agung Village, enabling them to reach broader markets. The program also serves as a model for successful community economic transformation — shifting from dependence on illegal mining to sustainable, environmentally conscious economic activities.
