Trauma Healing Activities to Support Psychological Recovery of Child Flood Victims in Sumatra

Padang Pariaman, December 5, 2025 – In addition to providing logistical aid such as basic necessities and medicines, the Emergency Response Team of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), consisting of medical and rescue personnel, also organized Trauma Healing activities to help support the psychological recovery of flood victims in Sumatra.
Reko Leka, a member of the team who went directly to the disaster site, explained that initially he and the team only planned to distribute logistical and medical assistance in Korong Surintiah Village, located in Lubuk Alung Subdistrict, Padang Pariaman Regency. Based on information they received, the village was still in urgent need of support.
“But when we arrived, many children approached us. As part of disaster response, aside from distributing aid such as basic supplies, we can also entertain the children so they can momentarily forget the traumatic events they’ve just experienced,” he said.
As it happened, Reko and the team had brought snacks such as milk and other treats. The children who gathered were invited to play together and were given gifts to help lift their spirits and ease their memories of the recent disaster.
Interestingly, Reko continued, it wasn’t only the children who became engaged in the trauma healing atmosphere. Parents who initially only watched eventually chose to join the activities, which were aimed at supporting the psychological recovery of the disaster victims.
“The children were very enthusiastic. At first, they were shy, but they eventually joined in. Actually, we initially intended the activities for the children, but in the end, the mothers and fathers joined too — around 50 people participated in the Trauma Healing activities,” he added.
Previously, PTBA had also distributed emergency aid to residents affected by flooding in several regions across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The assistance included basic necessities such as rice, mineral water, and cooking oil.
PTBA Corporate Secretary, Eko Prayitno, stated that this support is part of the company’s social responsibility to communities, particularly in the Sumatra region.
“PTBA always strives to be present and respond quickly. We hope this assistance can help ease the burden of our brothers and sisters affected by the floods,” he said.
